Royals' Triple-A club to face Durham for national championship
The Omaha Storm Chasers beat the Salt Lake Bees, 10-5, on Saturday night to claim their second Pacific Coast League championship in three years.
Unable to complete a sweep of the Bees on Friday night, the Chasers were able to get it done in Game 4 of the best-of-5 series at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Chasers, the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, barely made the playoffs. Back-to-back wins by Omaha to end the regular season, combined with two Memphis losses, allowed them to earn a postseason berth.
Omaha took an early lead in the decisive game, tacking on three runs in the first inning thanks to five singles. A six-run eighth inning, which included a three-run triple by Lane Adams, secured the victory.
Brian Sanches, who hadn't pitched since Sept. 4, tossed a gritty five innings, allowing two runs on nine hits for his second postseason win.
Omaha will face the Durham Bulls, the International League champion, on Tuesday in Allentown, Pa., in a one-game Triple-A national championship.
