Strained shoulder lands Ondrusek on DL

MILWAUKEE -- The Reds placed reliever Logan Ondrusek on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday because of a strained right shoulder. The move, which is retroactive to July 13, led to the recall of reliever Curtis Partch from Triple-A Louisville.

Ondrusek last pitched on July 12 vs. the Pirates and worked a scoreless inning, with two strikeouts, but his arm hasn't felt good lately.

"It had been sore off and on, but nothing that wasn't manageable through normal treatment," Ondrusek said. "After my last outing, the next day it was pretty sore, and I was working on it. I thought a few days off for the All-Star break would kind of kill everything in there. When I came back and started working out again in New York, it still felt the same. I don't think it's anything major."

In 29 appearances, Ondrusek has a 4.31 ERA, with six of his 19 inherited runners scoring. He was shut down from throwing for Tuesday and Wednesday. With the move backdated, he is eligible to return on Monday.

"We're going to be a little conservative and make sure he's OK before we move forward," manager Bryan Price said. "We can hopefully have him back in five to seven days."

Partch, in the big leagues for the fourth time this season, has retired 16 of the 23 batters he has faced.
