Tale of the tape: Cardinals-Giants, Game 4

Shelby Miller, Cardinals
Against the Giants
2014: Did not face San Francisco this season.
Career: 2 GS, 2-0, 1.46 ERA
Loves to face: Brandon Belt, 0-for-7, 3 K
Hates to face: Hunter Pence, 2-for-7, HR, RBI, BB, K

Game breakdown
Why he'll win: Miller has already beaten the game's best pitcher in a closeout game, defeating Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers to win the National League Division Series. He's riding the momentum of that win and a strong finish to the regular season (1.48 ERA, 0.857 WHIP in September).
Pitcher beware: In his career, Miller has fared much worse on the road (4.31 ERA) than he has at Busch Stadium (2.51 ERA). He hasn't pitched at AT&T Park since April 2013.
Bottom line: Miller has his first postseason start under his belt and can now carry confidence into a crucial Game 4 against a Giants team that has a combined 47 plate appearances against him.

Ryan Vogelsong, Giants
Against the Cardinals
2014: 2 GS, 0-1, 4.05 ERA
Career: 19 G, 9 GS, 2-6, 6.17 ERA
Loves to face: Daniel Descalso, 2-for-12, 3 K
Hates to face: Matt Carpenter, 5-for-12, 3B, RBI, 3 BB

Game breakdown
Why he'll win: Vogelsong is untouchable in the postseason. In five playoff starts, he owns a 1.19 ERA (a far cry from his 4.42 career regular-season ERA) and has never given up more than one run in a start.
Pitcher beware: He has struggled a little against left-handed hitters, allowing a .287/.334/.453 slash line this season. The Cardinals' lineup -- with Carpenter, Matt Adams, Kolten Wong and Jon Jay -- is full of dangerous lefties.
Bottom line: Vogelsong can rely on his stellar postseason past and feed off an electric home crowd as the right-hander looks to improve on his undefeated playoff record.
