Texas Rangers hire Doug Brocail as pitching coach and Anthony Iapoce as hitting coach

Club promotes Brad Holman to bullpen coach and Justin Mashore to assistant hitting coach; Bobby Jones returns as replay coordinator

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers today announced the club's 2016 coaching staff with the following transactions:

· Doug Brocail hired as pitching coach

· Anthony Iapoce (pronounced eye-uh-poh-SEE) hired as hitting coach

· Brad Holman (pronounced HOLE-muhn) promoted to bullpen coach

· Justin Mashore (pronounced MAY-shore) promoted to assistant hitting coach

· Bobby Jones named replay coordinator

Brocail, 48, will be in his second stint as a major league pitching coach, having served in that role with the Houston Astros from 2011-13. He spent the majority of 2014-15 as pitching coach for the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks after being named Astros Special Assistant to the General Manager and Senior Pitching Advisor prior to the 2014 campaign. His first position after retiring as a player came in 2010-11 as a Special Assistant to the GM for Houston. The right-handed pitcher saw action in 15 major league seasons from 1992-2009 with San Diego, Houston, Detroit, and Texas, appearing in 104 games with the Rangers in 2004-05. The Lamar, Colorado native has been a Houston-area resident for several years.

Iapoce, 42, has spent the last three seasons as the Chicago Cubs' Special Assistant to the General Manager/Player Development, overseeing that club's minor league hitting program while contributing to additional projects for the organization. Prior to joining the Cubs, he spent three seasons as Toronto's roving hitting coordinator from 2010-12 after beginning his coaching career in the Marlins system from 2006-09. The former outfielder played 11 minor league seasons in the Brewers and Marlins systems, as well as action in the independent Northern League, from 1994-2005. He is a native of Queens, New York, and played collegiately at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

The 47-year-old Holman will be on a major league staff for the first time. He has spent the last seven seasons as a pitching coach in the Rangers system, including 2013-15 with Triple-A Round Rock. He was co-recipient of the Bobby Jones Player Development Man of the Year Award after the 2013 campaign. He has also coached in the Pittsburgh (2008) and Seattle (2002-07) organizations after a seven-year playing career as a right-handed pitcher from 1990-96, including his only major league action with the Mariners in 1993.

Mashore will be in his first year on a major league staff after spending four years as a hitting coach for Texas affiliates, including the last two seasons with Triple-A Round Rock. The 43-year-old spent nine seasons as a coach in the Toronto organization from 2006-11 following an 11-year pro career as an outfielder from 1991-2001.

Jones, the longest-tenured active member of the Rangers' baseball operations department at 28 years, will be on the major league staff for a third straight year. Also returning to Manager Jeff Banister's staff in 2016 are Tony Beasley (third base coach), Steve Buechele (bench coach), Hector Ortiz (first base coach), and Jayce Tingler (field coordinator).
