Texas takes Wolff and his explosive fastball

Sam Wolff has been drafted twice before, but he should sign this time around. Before he was taken with the 190th overall pick this year, the Angels took him in the 42nd round in 2009 and the Red Sox selected him in the 47th round in 2011. Although he is small for a right-hander, at 6-foot-1, he showed an explosive fastball in college that will sit in the mid 90s and has a good downward plane.

He also has good secondary offerings in his slider and changeup, but he has struggled with control, and it could be an issue for him moving forward.

The right-hander made 15 starts this year, going 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA over 85 2/3 innings. He walked 37 batters as well, against 68 strikeouts.

His father, Steve, played in Padres organization in the early 1980s.
