The Angels Land Zack Greinke

As an Angels fan, I don’t know what to think about tonight's big Zack Greinke trade. All I know is that my dome exploded when I heard the news. As a baseball fan, this trade might be a little too prospect-heavy for my taste. The Angels made one goal in the offseason and that goal was to put all their chips in and win the World Series. All the crazy off-season moves made it clear that the Angels weren’t messing around. Even the Mark Trumbo at third base/outfield experiment worked out. After a crazy first half and some starting pitchers on the DL--Cough, Dan Haren, Cough--and some not really pitching the best to their abilities, the Angels needed to make a move by the trade deadline. They certainly did make a crazy one with the Greinke trade.

Zack Greinke posted a 9-3 record with a 3.44 ERA, 122 strikeouts and a 1.20 WHIP while he was with the Brewers. Those are some pretty solid numbers for a guy who is about to get photoshopped in a GRIP of Saved by the Bell screenshots by yours truly. This trade not only gives the Angels another dominant Ace in the staff, but the trade also should send chills to the up and coming AL West. Greinke has an ERA of 3.00 against the A’s, an ERA of 2.81 against the Rangers and an ERA of 2.27 against the Mariners.

So now what does the team do? Do they stop at Greinke? Do they deal some others and get more BP help? Who knows? All I know is that I’m going crazy over this Greinke deal. The Angels pitching staff is probably the best out there. Everyone may have already handed the Rangers the AL West crown, but the Angels aren’t going to give up on the quest to #TakeBackTheWest. Brewers fans, don’t sweat it out. You have some pretty solid prospects in Segura, Pena and Hellweg. I’m actually bummed I won’t get to see Pena in an Angels uniform, but that’s the price you have to pay when you want to hold that trophy at the end of the season.

What do you think? Did the Angels make a solid trade? Tweet us your answers or let us know on Facebook and Twitter @MLBFanCave or even to me @iBlogBetter. But give me some time to answer back. I’m still going nuts over the trade. #ZackAttack is on his way to Anaheim.
