Phillies place reliever Savery on 15-day DL

Left-hander battling stiffness in elbow; club promotes fellow lefty Valdes

ST. LOUIS -- The Phillies on Tuesday placed another relief pitcher on the disabled list.

Left-hander Joe Savery landed on the DL with stiffness in his left elbow. The club recalled left-hander Raul Valdes to take his place.

Savery last pitched July 13, throwing a scoreless inning in a 13-inning victory over the White Sox. He is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in 10 appearances.

"He was having trouble with his elbow," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.

Valdes was 1-0 with a 7.65 ERA in 10 appearances earlier this season with the Phillies before being demoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He pitched as a starter with the IronPigs, going 3-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 12 starts.
