Three Blue Jays selected to All-Star Game

#RaiseTheBar – Vote DELABAR - Final Man Candidate

Tonight OF JOSE BAUTISTA, 1B EDWIN ENCARNACION and LHP BRETT CECIL were selected represent the American League in the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York on July 16.   As well, RHP STEVE DELABAR has been chosen as one of five candidates for the Final Vote.

BAUTISTA, 32, will be making his 4th consecutive All-Star appearance as he was voted in by the fans. The 6-0, 192 lb. outfielder is currently one of eight American League players to hit 20 home runs this season. The Santo Domingo, DR native leads the Majors with 144 home runs since the start of 2010.

ENCARNACION, 30, will be making his first career All-Star appearance as he was voted in by the players. The 6-2, 228 lb. right-handed hitter is ranked among the top 10 in the AL offensive leaders in RBI (66), home runs (23), SLG % (.526), extra base hits (38) and OPS (.877). The La Romana, DR native ranks 2nd to only Miguel Cabrera with 65 home runs dating back to last season.

CECIL, 27, will be making his first career All-Star appearance. The 6-1, 216 lb. left-handed pitcher ranks among American League relievers in ERA (1.43, 3rd), opponents’ batting average (.153, 3rd) and WHIP (0.92, 6th). The Dunkirk, Maryland native set a club record this season after posting a streak of 40 straight batters without allowing a hit. He also recorded a career high 19.2 consecutive scoreless inning streak earlier this season.

DELABAR, 29, will attempt to make his first All-Star Game as he has been named as one of the five candidates to fill the last spot on the American League roster. The 6-4, 232lb. right-handed pitcher is 5-1 with a 1.58 ERA and leads all American relievers in strikeouts this season with 57 in 40.0 innings pitched. The Fort Knox, Kentucky native led all relievers in the month of June with 18.90 strikeouts/nine innings.   Blue Jays fans everywhere can vote for Delabar by visiting www.BlueJays.com  or www.MLB.com.
