Tigers Announce Hires in Scouting, International Operations, Baseball Operations and Analytics Departments

DETROIT - Detroit Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila today announced several hires in the club's scouting, international operations, baseball operations and analytics departments.
In major league scouting, Ray Crone, Joe Ferrone, Randy Johnson and Jimmy Rough have each been hired as major league scouts, while Murray Cook has been named senior advisor.
In amateur scouting, Steve Hinton has been named national crosschecker. Jim Bretz will serve as the area scout for the Northeast region (Eastern Canada, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania), RJ Burgess will be the area scout in North Florida, Dave Dangler will cover the Northwest region (Western Canada, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming), Oneri Fleita will be the area scout for the Mid-Atlantic region (District of Columbia, Maryland, Western Pennsylvania and Virginia), Justin Henry will cover the Southeast region (Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi) and Jeff Kunkel, who previously served as the Tigers bullpen catcher, will serve as the area scout for the upper Midwest (Northern Illinois, Northern Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin).
In international operations, Oneri Fleita will also serve as the organization's international crosschecker, while Jesus Garces will be the team's area scout in Venezuela.
In baseball operations, Alan Avila has been hired as assistant counsel, baseball operations. Within the analytics department, Jay Sartori has been hired as the team's Senior Director of Baseball Operations and Analytics, while Andrew Koo has been named Baseball Operations Analyst. Additionally, Chris Long will assist the department as Analytics Consultant.
