Tigers' Price stays true to his Tennessee roots

David Price, LHP, Tigers
Hometown: Murfreesboro, Tenn.

David Price wants to give more kids in his hometown the chance to succeed like he has.

Born and raised in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the four-time All-Star and former American League Cy Young Award winner established Project One Four, a foundation that helps local children learn life skills in a safe environment.

Price began to raise eyebrows as a pitcher at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, posting a 0.43 ERA while there and playing in the 2004 High School All-America Game in Albuquerque, N.M.

Price went to nearby Vanderbilt University and continued to amaze. In 2007, he went 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA, leading the nation with 194 strikeouts in 133 1/3 innings pitched. He won the Golden Spikes Award for best amateur player in the country, as well as the Dick Howser Award for most outstanding collegiate player.

Price went No.1 overall to the Rays in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
