Extension announced for Tigers' radio stations

Olympia Entertainment, CBS Radio have multiyear agreement for team's broadcast home

DETROIT -- The Tigers are keeping their radio home at 97.1 FM and AM 1270 for the foreseeable future. Olympia Entertainment, part of the Ilitch Holdings group whose properties include the Tigers and the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings, announced Monday a multiyear agreement with CBS Radio to extend both teams' radio broadcast rights on the two stations.

The announcement ends speculation over a broadcast home for the Tigers, whose games have been a ratings draw for years during the summer months in Michigan. The exact length of the deal wasn't announced.

"There is something special about listening to a Tigers game on the radio, and the team at CBS Radio continues its standard of excellence in their coverage of Tigers baseball," Tigers executive vice president of business operations Duane McLean said in a statement.

The Tigers first moved their games to AM 1270 in 2001. CBS Radio later added 97.1 FM to the broadcast network as a way to better reach listeners. In addition, the Tigers radio network includes nearly 40 stations across Michigan and into northwest Ohio and Indiana.

The new deal continues pre- and postgame shows hosted by Tigers play-by-play broadcaster Dan Dickerson, who will continue to do a weekly Hot Stove show in the offseason. Added to the deal is a one-hour show called Inside the Ballpark, which will air on WWJ News Radio 950.
