Tigers to honor 1968 World Series champions

45th anniversary celebration includes commemorative coin giveaway courtesy of Belle Tire; Jose Feliciano to perform national anthem

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers will celebrate one of the most beloved teams in club history Saturday, May 25, when they pay tribute to the 1968 World Series Champion Tigers at Comerica Park. The Tigers will host the Minnesota Twins at 4:05 p.m. and fans are encouraged to arrive early to be in their seats to enjoy the pre-game festivities. Gates open at 2:00 p.m.

The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative 1968 Tigers 45th Anniversary commemorative coin, courtesy of Belle Tire.

José Feliciano will perform the National Anthem. Feliciano performed "The Star Spangled Banner" prior to Game 5 of the 1968 World Series between the Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals at Tiger Stadium, a game the Tigers won 5-3 on October 7.

The tribute will continue with a special "Year of the Tiger 1968" video feature on the TigerVision HD scoreboard. The video will be followed by an on-field, pre-game ceremony to recognize the members of the 1968 team. In addition to all of the pre-game festivities, one member of the 1968 team will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Tigers play-by-play radio broadcaster Dan Dickerson will serve as master of ceremonies.
