Michalczewski, Ynoa are Prospects of the Week

Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Week: Trey Michalczewski, Kannapolis Intimidators
White Sox No. 18 prospect, six games, 9-for-22 (.409/.458/1.045), 1.504 OPS, three home runs, eight RBIs, six runs

Michalczewski entered the week on a six-game hitting streak, and by week's end, he had doubled it to 12 games. In doing so, he collected nine hits, seven of which went for extra bases.

Michalczewski also snapped a long power outage. He hit his first home run of the season on April 6, in the fourth game of the year. But Michalczewski wouldn't hit another home run until June 2, a span of 173 at- bats. Also, since his first homer was an inside-the-parker, he finally got to break out his home run trot last week.

Michalczewski was a two-sport star in high school before the White Sox made him their seventh-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He has spent his first full professional season with the Intimidators and is hitting .290 with an .828 OPS in 60 games.

Pipeline Pitching Prospect of the Week: Gabriel Ynoa, St. Lucie Mets

Ynoa made a name for himself with his exceptional control last year, when he posted the lowest walk rate (1.1 per nine innings) in the Minor Leagues and was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year. His walk rate hasn't been quite as sterling this season (1.9) as he's moved up to the Florida State League, but Ynoa has continued to pitch well.

On Friday, Ynoa tossed what might have been his best game. He struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven scoreless innings. After giving up a pair of singles in the first inning, he surrendered just two more hits the rest of the night. And he showed off his above-average control, not walking a batter.

With the victory, Ynoa improved to 6-2 with a 3.45 ERA. He has struck out 50 batters and walked 13 in 62 2/3 innings.
