Twitter provides links with fans at All-Star Game

While the National League was busy posting its largest victory ever on the field in Tuesday night's All-Star Game, the MLB Social Media Room was giving the fans an All-Star experience unlike any other off of it.

The Social Media buzz started even before the first pitch, as Dodgers All-Star Matt Kemp became the first Major Leaguer to tweet directly before and during a game.

Kemp tweeted while stationed at a laptop in the Social Media Room.

The fun was only beginning, as Kemp's fellow All-Stars continued interacting with fans throughout the game. Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg tweeted a sigh of relief after facing Robinson Cano, Josh Hamilton, Jose Bautista and Prince Fielder in a scoreless fourth inning.

"I had to face Cano, Hamilton, Bautista, and Fielder!! Pretty insane! #ASG," Strasburg tweeted.

As for Bautista, Monday's 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby runner-up, he eventually exited the game with his American League squad trailing by eight after the fifth inning, but urged the fans to stick with his club.

"Wow! the #NL really came out swinging the hot sticks! Game is not over yet [though]! #Leggoo #AL #ASG," Bautista tweeted.

Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey took the Social Media Room as an opportunity to thank everyone for their support, just moments after he tossed a scoreless fifth frame.

"[J]ust came out of the game. what a fantastic experience. thank you so much everyone for your support. #asg," tweeted the 37-year-old first-time All-Star.

Yankees captain Derek Jeter and Royals' hometown All-Star Billy Butler even took the time to interact with fans through the @MLB official Twitter account. The pair responded to select questions from fans regarding the All-Star festivities and the season's upcoming second half.

Jeter tweeted that his favorite aspect of the Midsummer Classic is getting to know some of the other players who he only can watch "from afar" during the season. He also revealed that his favorite All-Star moment was his first start, which came in 2000.

As for Butler, his favorite All-Star moment came before the game's first pitch was even thrown.

"The ovation to start the game," Butler said through the @MLB account. "The fan support was amazing. It's the most I've been cheered my whole life."
