Wallach heads to Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame

LOS ANGELES -- Bench coach Tim Wallach won't make the trip to San Diego for the Dodgers' next series. Instead, he'll be in St. Marys, Ontario, where he'll be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Wallach is the Montreal Expos' all-time leader in hits (1,695), doubles (360), RBIs (905), total bases (2,728) and games played (1,767). He also ranks third in runs, with 737, and fourth in home runs, with 204. Wallach will be inducted along with former Expos general manager Murray Cook, former Team Canada manager and Blue Jays scout Jim Redley and David Van Horne, the former voice of the Montreal Expos.

"I'm both surprised and honored to be selected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame," said Wallach in a statement. "What a great thrill to be going in with such integral parts of the Montreal Expos for such a long time, and to join many of my old teammates and manager, along with so many people that meant so much to Canadian baseball. This is a great honor for my family and myself."

Wallach played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues. He was with the Expos from 1980-92, and he played his final four seasons with the Dodgers and Angels. Wallach is a career .257 hitter, a five-time National League All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove winner at third base.
