What to watch for in today's games

The season is nearly a month old, and the dust continues to settle around the league. All 30 teams are in action today, so here are five things to watch for:

• Gray-Weaver rematch: LAA @ OAK, 10:05 p.m. ET

Jered Weaver, the longtime ace of the Angels' staff, is winless through four starts for the first time in his career. He'll get a second straight shot at Sonny Gray and the A's after Oakland bested the Angels on Wednesday. Weaver has won four of his last six starts against Oakland, while Gray is an impressive 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA this year, thanks in part to a two-hit effort through seven innings in his last outing against the Halos.

• Gonzalez debuts: PHI @ STL, 8:15 p.m. ET

Young right-hander Severino Gonzalez will take the mound for the first time in his Major League career when he squares off against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals. Gonzalez, named the Phillies' Minor League Pitcher of the Year two years ago, has gone 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in Triple-A this season. In Wacha's last three outings, he's outdueled Johnny Cueto (twice) and Max Scherzer.

• Bumgarner vs. Kershaw, Pt. 2: SF @ LAD, 10:10 p.m. ET

It was only last week when these two aces squared off for the first meeting between a regular season Most Valuable Player (Kershaw) and World Series MVP (Bumgarner) and, while the pitching performances didn't factor into the final decision, the game was a thriller to the end. The two aces will take center stage again at Dodger Stadium.

• Cole steps in for Major League debut: WAS @ ATL, 7:10 p.m. ET

Since he was still dealing with some right thumb soreness after he played catch on Sunday, Scherzer will not make his regularly scheduled start against the division-rival Braves. A.J. Cole, the Nationals' No. 3 prospect according to MLB.com, is slated to make his first big league start against Julio Teheran and Atlanta after posting a 2.40 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Syracuse.

• Bauer's back: KC @ CLE, 6:10 p.m. ET

Right-hander Trevor Bauer missed a start on Saturday because of a last-minute bout of food poisoning, but he rejoins the rotation in an important division game against the Royals. Bauer has been uber-impressive this season, going 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA through three starts.
