What to watch for in today's games

Put down the remote control. Felix Hernandez is facing the Red Sox today.

Seattle's ace, a five-time All-Star and a Cy Young Award winner before his 30th birthday, is off to the best start of his young career. Hernandez has a 6-0 record and a 1.85 ERA in his first seven starts, and he leads all American League starting pitchers with a 0.84 WHIP.

The 29-year-old has completed seven innings in all but two of his starts, and he's allowed more than two earned runs in just one of his outings. Hernandez has more than six times as many strikeouts (50) as he has walks (eight) this season, and he's given up 33 hits in 48 2/3 innings.

Boston will counter with Rick Porcello, who is 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his first seven starts. Porcello gave up eight earned runs in one outing earlier this season, but he's 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts since that game. The Red Sox have won each of Porcello's last four starts.

Gerrit Cole is figuring out how to thrive at the highest level. Cole, the top overall selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has pitched to a 5-1 record and a 2.32 ERA in his first seven starts. Cole has racked up more strikeouts (45) than hits allowed (36) through his first 42 2/3 innings.

Cole has completed six innings in five of his first seven starts, and he's given up two earned runs or fewer five times. The right-hander has allowed just two home runs, following a trend he's established in his brief career. Cole has thrown 298 innings in the Major Leagues and has given up just 20 homers.

On the other side, meanwhile, is a distinguished veteran who's just settling into his first tour around the National League. Jon Lester, a three-time All-Star with Boston, struggled to a 6.23 ERA in four April starts with the Cubs, but he's rebounded to the tune of three wins and a 1.80 ERA in his first three May starts.

Archie Bradley is coming back from one of the scariest plays in the sport. Bradley, one of the top pitching prospects in the game, was struck by a line drive in the face in his last start on April 28. Now, after spending two weeks on the disabled list, he's ready to get back to business.

Bradley, the No. 15 prospect in baseball according to MLBPipeline, lived up to his advance billing in his first three starts of the season. The right-hander completed six innings and held the opposition to two earned runs or fewer in all three of his starts before being knocked out by injury in the fourth.

The Phillies will hand the ball to Jerome Williams, and they're hoping to gather some steam. Williams has gone 2-3 with a 5.21 ERA through his first seven starts, but he's yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start at home. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA at Citizens Bank Park.

Pure dominance: COL @ LAD, 9:10 p.m. ET
It's one of the craziest statistics you'll see. Since joining the Dodgers, Zack Greinke is 21-1 against teams in the NL West, and he'll face another division rival on Saturday. Greinke is 5-0 with a league-best 1.52 ERA this season, and he's 7-2 with a 3.57 mark against Colorado for his career.

Greinke snapped a five-start winning streak in his last start, when he got a no-decision despite pitching seven innings and allowing just one earned run. Greinke's ERA has not risen above 2.00 after any start this season, and he's managed to complete six innings in every one of his outings.

The Rockies will go with southpaw Jorge De La Rosa, who has been knocked around to an 0-2 record and a 9.56 ERA through his first four starts. The left-hander's most recent outing came against the Dodgers, and he gave up five hits and five earned runs in just four innings.
