White Sox series opener vs. Reds postponed

CHICAGO -- The series opener between the White Sox and Reds on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader Saturday, with the first game starting at 3:10 p.m. CT and the regularly scheduled contest set for 30 minutes after the first game but no earlier than 6:10 p.m.

Through the first six weeks of the season, the White Sox have had two games rained out, one game suspended due to unplayable field conditions caused by rain and lost two games to the civil unrest in Baltimore. Saturday will mark the first of three doubleheaders for the White Sox between now and July 17.

"It's tough when you think about it that way, but in the end, there's nothing you can do about it," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Put that part out of your mind and just figure you got to play.

"For us, the good news is you can add a 26th guy if you have a doubleheader, so both teams will be able to have a guy. Nobody likes rainouts, especially this early, especially as many as we've had. You don't mind one maybe in August, but this might be a little overkill."

Hector Noesi will start Game 1 against the Reds' Johnny Cueto. In the night cap, No. 1 prospect Carlos Rodon will make his big league start opposite Jason Marquis.

Fans must exchange their game tickets and parking coupons from Friday's postponement for tickets of equal or lesser value to any future regular-season White Sox home game. All exchanges must be done at the U.S. Cellular Field Box Office, which opens Saturday at 9 a.m. Fans with tickets for Saturday may attend both games.

Comcast SportsNet will televise the first game until 6 p.m. If the game lasts longer, then the remainder would be carried by Comcast SportsNet Plus. WGN will televise the nightcap. WSCR 670 AM and WRTO 1200 AM Univision Radio will broadcast both games.
