Gigantes 2, Escogido 0
Francisco Peguero, the Orioles' No. 9 prospect after signing with the club as a free agent earlier this month, singled in a run in the first inning for Gigantes. Alexi Casilla added an insurance tally with an RBI single in the seventh in support of starter Claudio Vargas, who combined with three relievers for the shutout. Joel Peralta nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth. Gigantes' Juan Silverio went 2-for-4 with a double, the game's only multihit performance. Box score

Licey 3, Aguilas 2
Aguilas scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and had the potential tying run in scoring position with no outs, but Jairo Asencio retired the last three batters for the save. Licey's Hector Noesi got the win, going six strong inning to outduel Juan Nicasio. Engel Beltre's two-run double in the second provided some support for Licey, and Erick Aybar added a sacrifice fly in the third. Joey Terdoslavich drove in both runs for Aguilas. Box score

Mayaguez 11, Santurce 3
Leadoff man Dee Gordon collected three hits and two RBIs, leading a 15-hit Mayaguez attack. Luis Figueroa's grand slam highlighted a seven-run fourth inning that put Mayaguez ahead, 11-0, and Hiram Burgos tossed five scoreless innings for the win. Neftali Soto provided Santurce's offense with a three-run homer. Box score

Carolina 8, Ponce 4
Ponce outhit Carolina, 14-7, but Carolina drew seven walks and benefited from an error. Osvaldo Martinez led the Carolina offense with three hits, while Carlos Corporan drove in two runs. Jonathan Mota and Henry Ramos both homered for Ponce. Box score

Venezuelan Winter League

Caribes 6, Lara 5
Trailing by one, Luis Nunez started Caribes' bottom of the ninth with a single, and two batters later, Jackson Melian smacked a two-run, walk-off homer off Cesar Jimenez. Melian, who entered as a pinch-hitter in the seventh, finished 2-for-2. Luis Valbuena and Paulo Orlando both homered for Lara. Box score

Caracas 4, Aragua 1
Gregorio Petit homered twice to carry Caracas past Aragua, hitting a two-run shot to break a scoreless tie in the second inning and adding a solo blast in the fourth. Petit finished with four RBIs, and Franklin Morales held Aragua to one run on five hits over seven innings. Box score

La Guaira 5, Magallanes 4 (13 innings)
Magallanes' Miguel De Los Santos walked the only batter he faced, Carlos Sanchez, forcing home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning. La Guaira had loaded the bases against Orangel Arenas on two walks, a sacrifice and an error. Endy Chavez had three doubles in six at-bats for Magallanes, while Mario Lisson and Ezequiel Carrera homered. Rene Reyes went deep for La Guaira. Box score

Culiacan 7, Obregon 3
Felix Perez hit a three-run homer and Donell Linares added a solo shot and went 3-for-5 for Culiacan, which took the lead with a four-run fifth inning. Andres Ivan Meza gave up two runs and struck out six over six innings for the win. Box score

Mazatlan 4, Los Mochis 1
Issmael Salas produced two hits, including a home run, to lead Mazatlan. Yadel Marti struck out seven over five scoreless innings, then gave way to a parade of seven relievers. Brian Burgamy went deep for Los Mochis. Box score

Navojoa 8, Guasave 1
Wes Bankston and Carlos Orrantia homered for Navojoa, with Orrantia and Genaro Andrade both driving in a pair of runs. Hector Velazquez gave up one run on five hits over six innings to improve to 8-1. Box score

Hermosillo 8, Mexicali 2
Hermosillo extended a one-run lead with a five-run sixth, with Jerry Owens' two-run single starting the rally. One inning later, Brad Snyder hit a two-run homer for Mexicali, but it wasn't enough. Edgar Gonzalez picked up the win by tossing five scoreless innings. Box score
