Polanco's two-run single fuels big fifth inning in Dominican Republic

Escogido 4, Gigantes 3

Pirates No. 2 prospect Gregory Polanco hit a two-run single that highlighted a four-run fifth inning for Escogido, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Polanco finished 2-for-3 and is hitting .343. Gigantes put the two tying runs on base with no outs in the ninth, but Chris Martin induced a run-scoring double play from Jonathan Diaz, then retired Alexi Casilla for the final out. Moises Sierra and Jimmy Paredes drove in runs for Gigantes, while Phillies No. 2 prospect Maikel Franco added a hit and a walk. Box score

Toros 3, Licey 2

Jim Adduci and Ricardo Nanita hit solo homers in the fourth inning to extend the Toros' lead to 3-0. Raul Valdes struck out six over seven strong innings for the win, and Fabio Castillo nailed down the save. Jordany Valdespin homered for Licey, while Yamaico Navarro doubled in a run. Box score

Estrellas 5, Aguilas 4 (10)

Trailing 4-3 after Aguilas scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th, Estrellas hit three straight singles to load the bases with no outs in the bottom half. Alfredo Marte followed with a two-run, walk-off single to cap a 2-for-5 night. The Cubs' Junior Lake went 3-for-5 with a homer for Estrellas, while Yankees No. 6 prospect Zoilo Almonte collected three hits for Aguilas. Box score

Caracas 7, Lara 6 (10)

Nick Buss' two-run triple for Lara broke a 4-4 tie in the 10th, but in the bottom of the frame, Ramon Cabrera hit a solo homer, Alex Gonzalez tied things up with an RBI double, and Indians No. 17 prospect Jesus Aguilar smacked the walk-off single. Eric Thames hit a two-run shot for Caracas, while Joe Thurston doubled and tripled for Lara. Box score

Aragua 5, Caribes 2

Hector Gimenez's RBI single broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning after Caribes had evened the score in the top of the frame. Major League veteran Ronny Cedeno was one of four Aragua players with two hits, while Gorkys Hernandez notched a hit and an RBI for Caribes. Box score

Margarita 6, Zulia 5

Margarita trailed 3-0 after six innings, but Carlos Rivero hit a solo homer in the seventh and a grand slam in the eighth, when his club scored five to grab a 6-3 lead. Zulia came back with two in the bottom of the eighth but fell short, with Bryan Price picking up the save. The Astros' Marwin Gonzalez was one of four Zulia players to record two hits. Box score

Magallanes 6, La Guaira 5

Ezequiel Carrera's solo homer tied the game for Magallanes in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Eliezer Alfonzo won it with a walk-off solo blast in the 10th. Frank Diaz added three hits and two RBIs for Magallanes, which trailed 4-0 in the first and 5-3 in the seventh. Alex Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the first for La Guaira, and C.J. Retherford added a solo shot. Rangers No. 2 prospect Luis Sardinas also chipped in two hits. Box score

Hermosillo 6, Los Mochis 2

Edgar Quintero homered twice and drove in four runs for Hermosillo, which got six scoreless innings from Juan Oramas, who improved to 5-0. Emmanuel Avila notched two hits for Los Mochis. Box score

Mexicali 6, Obregon 3

Russell Branyan doubled twice for Mexicali, driving in a run during a three-run fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie. Edgar Osuna gave up two earned runs over six innings and struck out seven for the win. Agustin Murillo led Obregon with three hits. Box score

Mazatlan 7, Guasave 1

Bryan Peterson smacked a three-run homer in the first inning, and Oswaldo Morejon added one of his own in the second, staking Mazatlan to an early 6-0 lead. Morejon finished 4-for-5, while Mark Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple for Guasave. Alejandro Martinez gave up a run on two hits over seven innings for the win. Box score

Navojoa 6, Culiacan 2

Jose Chavez and Luis Fonseca both hit two-run homers for Navojoa, while Jose Oyervidez held Culiacan to one run over six innings. Luis Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Culiacan. Box score

Caguas 6, Ponce 5 (13)

Jorge Padilla provided the winning tally with his RBI double in the top of the 13th and finished the game 3-for-7. Teammate Jaime Ortiz added three hits and three RBIs. Jordan Lennerton went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for Ponce, which had rallied from a 5-1 deficit. Box score

Mayaguez 4, Santurce 2 (11)

Luis Figueroa's two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 11th won it for Mayaguez. Tyler Herron walked four batters in the bottom of the frame but got a double play and retired Jeff Dominguez on a bases-loaded flyout to end it. Jerry Sands hit a solo homer and walked three times for Mayaguez, while Astros No. 2 prospect Jonathan Singleton went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk for Santurce. Box score
