Worth noting

• Bochy seized his last opportunity until late March to field the Giants' probable Opening Day lineup Thursday. This weekend, regulars such as Angel Pagan, Pablo Sandoval and Marco Scutaro will take off to participate in the World Baseball Classic. The finals are scheduled for March 19 in San Francisco.

• Kensuke Tanaka singled to center field in the eighth inning Thursday against Seattle, ending an 0-for-10 skid in Cactus League play. "I know he's been pressing to get it," Bochy said of the utility infielder's first hit.

• Bochy sounded impressed by left-hander Dan Runzler, who struck out two in a scoreless sixth inning Thursday. Bothered for much of last season by a strained latissimus dorsi muscle, Runzler could intensify his bid for a spot on the Opening Day roster if Mijares is sidelined for a prolonged period.

• Shortstop Joe Panik, San Francisco's first-round selection in the 2011 Draft, has not appeared in a Cactus League game due to a right hamstring injury. Panik has been undergoing treatment and might be able to take batting practice Saturday.
