Bogaerts, Hanley making bid for All-Star nod

TORONTO -- Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez remain among the top vote-getters for this year's All-Star Game, which is set for July 14 in Cincinnati. As of the most recent balloting update, Bogaerts is still in the hunt for a berth at shortstop while Ramirez is in contention for an outfield spot.

Bogaerts is fourth among American League shortstops with 1,819,295 votes, trailing the Royals' Alcides Escobar (10,057,381), the Tigers' Jose Iglesias (7,395,163) and the Blue Jays' Jose Reyes (4,800,710).

"He's having a very good year. To see how far he's come in a year's time, and the confidence and speed with which he's playing, is much improved over a year ago," Red Sox manager John Farrell said of Bogaerts. "How that translates into an All-Star appearance is out of everyone's control, but in terms of what he's doing, you'd think his play speaks for itself."

Ramirez, meanwhile, is 13th among AL outfielders with 1,629,706 votes. He hasn't played since Wednesday, when he sustained a bruised left hand after being struck with a line drive while running the bases.
