McCann earns sixth Silver Slugger, first in NY
Fourth catcher to win league's top offensive honor at least six times
NEW YORK -- Brian McCann led all Major League catchers in home runs and tied a career high with a team-leading 94 RBIs this past season, a performance that saw the Yankees catcher rewarded with his sixth Silver Slugger Award.
McCann was named the American League's best offensive performer at his respective position on Thursday, marking the veteran's first Silver Slugger selection since 2011, as well as his first such honor with the Yankees.

The Silver Slugger, presented by Louisville Slugger, is issued each year to players whose offensive exploits stand out among their position peers. They are voted on by Major League managers and coaches.
McCann, 31, batted .232 with 68 runs, 15 doubles and 26 home runs in 135 games, with his 94 RBIs ranking second only to the Giants' Buster Posey among big league catchers.
Bringing home a sixth career Silver Slugger -- he previously won in 2006, '08, '09, '10 and '11 with the Braves -- also places McCann in elite historical company among backstops.
He is just one of four catchers in Major League history to win the award at least six times, joining Mike Piazza (10), Ivan Rodriguez (seven) and Lance Parrish (six).
McCann is also just the sixth catcher in Yankees history to reach 25 homers in a season, joining Yogi Berra, Bill Dickey, Jorge Posada, Elston Howard and Mike Stanley.
