Yanks' rivalries with Dodgers, Giants renewed in '13

The Yankees will gear up for visits to Colorado's Coors Field, Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium and San Diego's PETCO Park next season, as revealed by Major League Baseball's release of the 2013 schedule on Wednesday.

A renewed Interleague play schedule will also have the Yankees entertaining the Arizona D-backs, Dodgers and San Francisco Giants at Yankee Stadium as Interleague play is now featured in each month, fueling new and interesting matchups throughout the baseball calendar.

Opening Day for the Yankees will be held against a familiar rival on Monday, April 1, as the Yankees will hang bunting around the Stadium and welcome the Boston Red Sox to the Bronx for a three-game series. It marks the first time since 2005 that the Yankees have entertained the Red Sox at home for a season opener.

New York's perennially intense rivalry with the Red Sox continues with two additional meetings in the Bronx (May 31-June 2, Sept. 5-8) and three trips to Fenway Park (July 19-21, Aug. 16-18, Sept. 13-15).

As the Yankees play 19 of their first 32 games at home, Interleague play begins for the Yankees with the D-backs (April 16-18) coming to New York. The Yankees will get their first in-season look at the American League's newest entrant, the Houston Astros, when they visit New York from April 29-May 1.

The Subway Series has been whittled to a quick rush of May action, as the Mets and Yankees lock up for four straight games, playing twice at each home park. The Yankees visit Citi Field May 27-28 and the Mets are in the Bronx May 29-30.

Those who remember the era before 1958, when New York was a three-team town, will get a kick out of the nostalgia sure to accompany the Dodgers and Giants to Yankee Stadium.

Long removed from their Flatbush Avenue roots, the Dodgers make their first trip to Yankee Stadium for a two-game series June 18-19, with the Yankees returning the favor in Los Angeles July 30-31. 2013 will mark the first year that the Dodgers have played regular season games at Yankee Stadium.

Not to be left out of the old-school fun, the Giants come to Yankee Stadium for a three-game showdown from Sept. 20-22. The NL West matchups also include the Yankees heading West to play the Rockies (May 7-9) and the Padres (Aug. 2-4).

The Yankees' final home game is on Sept. 26 against the Rays. The 2013 regular season concludes for the Yankees with a three-game trip to play the Astros at Minute Maid Park from Sept. 27-29.
