Rockies get pitcher from White Sox for Kahnle
Right-hander Yency Almonte, a 21-year-old who pitched Class A ball for the White Sox last year, was acquired by the Rockies on Tuesday in a trade for right-hander Tommy Kahnle.
Almonte went 11-7 with a 3.41 ERA in 24 games (22 starts) with Class A Kannapolis and Class A Advanced Winston-Salem last season. He finished the year by going 3-3 with a 2.42 ERA in seven games (six starts) with Winston-Salem, where he had 39 strikeouts and 12 walks in 44 2/3 innings.
He will be assigned to Class A Advanced Modesto.
Almonte was acquired by the White Sox last February from the Angels in a trade for infielder Gordon Beckham. He originally was drafted by the Angels out of high school in Miami in the 17th round in 2012.
Kahnle was designated for assignment Friday by the Rockies. The 26-year-old was 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA and two saves in 36 relief appearances last year. He began the season in Triple-A Albuquerque before being recalled June 1.
Kahnle was acquired by Colorado in the Rule 5 Draft from the Yankees in 2013 and was 2-2 with a 4.41 ERA in 90 games over the past two seasons.
