Lorenzen cracks bullpen for Phils' NLDS roster

October 7th, 2023

The Phillies announced their National League Division Series roster on Saturday morning.

As expected, they added right-hander to the bullpen for the best-of-five series. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, infielder/outfielder was removed. Wilson made the NL Wild Card Series roster, but he did not play.

The Phillies likely felt they needed an extra pitcher for the longer series. Also, the Braves are not as left-handed heavy as the Marlins. Wilson made the NLWCS roster because there could have been late-inning pinch-hitting situations with five left-handed Marlins relievers.

“They’ve got three lefties on the roster,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said about the Braves’ pitching staff. “The right-handed bat is probably not going to come into play.”

Here is the roster:

Pitchers (13): Left-handers José Alvarado, Cristopher Sánchez, Gregory Soto, Matt Strahm and Ranger Suárez; and right-handers Seranthony Domínguez, Jeff Hoffman, Orion Kerkering, Craig Kimbrel, Michael Lorenzen, Aaron Nola, Taijuan Walker and Zack Wheeler.

Catchers (2): J.T. Realmuto and Garrett Stubbs.

Infielders (5): Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, Edmundo Sosa, Bryson Stott and Trea Turner.

Outfielders (6): Nick Castellanos, Jake Cave, Brandon Marsh, Cristian Pache, Johan Rojas and Kyle Schwarber.
