The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed three players from the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Senior Director of Amateur Scouting.
30th Round: Jack Herman, OF, 6-0/190, Eastern High School (assigned to GCL Pirates) ... Was a 2018 Rawlings Perfect-Game second-team All-American ... Was a 2018 Northeast All-Region first-team selection ... Was a 2017 Underclass All-American ... Hit .556 with five home runs, 41 RBI and 48 runs scored during the 2018 season with Eastern (NJ) High School.
39th Round: Cody Smith, RHP, 6-0/202, Charleston Southern University (assigned to GCL Pirates) ... Was named a 2017 Big South All-Conference second-team selection ... Recorded a team-high eight saves, which ranked fourth in the Big South in 2017.
40th Round: Jake Mielock, RHP, 6-3/220, Colorado Mesa University GCL Pirates (assigned to GCL Pirates) ... Went 1-0 with a 7.04 ERA (30.2ip/24er) and 33 strikeouts in 14 appearances (one start) in 2018 with Colorado Mesa University.
