Pirates Charities to distribute $55,000 to area nonprofits through the "Friendsgiving" campaign

All Proceeds to Benefit Local Families for the Upcoming Holiday Season

December 8th, 2020

Throughout the month of November, Pirates Charities teamed-up with Pirates fans, players, coaches and front office staff to make a positive impact with the “Pirates Charities Friendsgiving” holiday gift campaign. The online campaign raised funds to benefit four local non-profit organizations and their efforts to support local families and individuals this holiday season by assisting with the purchase of toys, clothes and winter outerwear.

Now, thanks to the November efforts, Pirates Charities will distribute a total of $55,000 to four area nonprofits and work with them over the upcoming days to ensure a brighter Christmas season for many local families.

Friendsgiving beneficiaries as well as their upcoming events include:

Allegheny County Department of Human Services

o The Pirates Charities contribution will provide holiday gifts for over 200 children receiving care through the Office of Children, Youth and Families. On Monday, December 7, Pirates Charities took part in a special check presentation at the Holiday Project Workshop. The Pirate Parrot presented a donation as well as a bag full of toys to be donated to the workshop.

Light of Life

o The Pirates Charities contribution will help Light of Life provide holiday gifts for 150 individuals. On Thursday, December 10, The Pirates will be on hand to present a donation and help distribute meals to those in need.

Urban Impact

On Saturday, December 12, the Pirate Parrot will present the Urban Impact with a donation and will assist with a holiday delivery surprise to a North Side family.

Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania

o The Pirates Charities contribution will help assist over 100 individuals this holiday season. On Tuesday, December 15, the Pirate Parrot and Pirates Charities staff will join the Salvation Army for a check presentation and a special shopping trip to help with 10 local families in need.
