Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have selected three more players on day two of the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. After drafting infielder Aaron Sabato with the 27th overall pick last night, the Twins today selected outfielder Alerick Soularie, right-handed pitcher Marco Raya, and outfielder Kala’i Rosario. Below is a complete list and description of the players drafted by Minnesota:

 Sabato, 21, hit .292 (19-for-65) with six doubles, seven home runs, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored, 22 walks and a .478 on-base percentage in 19 games as a sophomore for the Tar Heels before the 2020 season was shortened due to COVID-19. In 2019, he set a North Carolina freshman record for home runs in a season with 18 (8th-most in UNC history). He also led the team in batting average (.343), hits (79), doubles (25), RBI (63) and slugging percentage (.696), while posting an OPS of 1.149. The first baseman was named 2019 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Co-National Freshman of the Year, First Team All-American and Freshman All-American; Baseball America and D1Baseball First Team Freshman All-American and Third Team All-American; NCBWA National Freshman Hitter of the Year; ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American; Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American; ACC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-ACC. Sabato was ranked as the 41st-best prospect in the 2020 Draft by MLB.com and 35th by Baseball America. The Rye Brook, NY native attended the Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT where he was ranked as the fourth-best player in the state and the 35th-best shortstop in the country by Perfect Game.

 Soularie, 20, played 16 games in a shortened season for the Volunteers in 2020, hitting .267 (16-for-60) with one double, five home runs (team-lead), 17 RBI, 16 runs scored and 12 walks with a .392 on-base percentage. After spending his freshman year at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, TX, the outfielder was selected by St. Louis in the 29th round of the 2018 Draft, but transferred to Tennessee where he played two seasons from 2019-20, hitting .336 (86-for-256) with 14 doubles, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 68 runs scored and a .448 on-base percentage in 76 games. The Houston, TX native was named 2020 Preseason All-SEC First Team, 2020 D1Baseball.com Preseason First Team All-American, 2020 NCBWA Preseason Second Team All-American, 2020 Perfect Game Preseason Third Team All-American and 2020 Baseball America Preseason Second Team All-American. He was ranked as the 105th best prospect in the draft by MLB.com.

 Raya, 17, went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA (18.0 IP), three walks, 36 strikeouts and a .054 opponent batting average in five games during his shortened senior season at United South High School in Laredo, TX. Over three prep seasons for the Panthers, the right-hander posted a record of 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA (70.2 IP, 28 ER), 44 walks, 98 strikeouts and a .189 opponent batting average. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Raya was named 2020 Rawlings-Perfect Game First Team Senior Preseason All-American for Texas, as well as Preseason Underclass All-American Honorable Mention in both 2018 and ’19. Raya’s older brother, Osvaldo, pitched at Texas A&M International University and is the career strikeout leader at the school. Prior to Raya, the last high school pitcher selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the First-Year Player Draft was Stephen Gonsalves (Cathedral Catholic High School, CA) in 2013. The Laredo, TX native is committed to play collegiately at Texas Tech University.

 Rosario, 17, hit .343 with five home runs and 11 RBI in a shortened 2020 season for Waiakea High School in Hilo, HI. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound outfielder was named the 2019-20 Gatorade Hawaii baseball player of the year. The Papaikou, HI native won the 2019 Area Code Games Home Run Derby by slugging 21 homers one of which traveled 440-feet. He was ranked 88th best prospect in the draft by Baseball America and 182nd by MLB.com. He becomes the 13th player ever to be selected out of a school in Hawaii by the Twins in the June Amateur Draft and the sixth Hawaiian high schooler picked by the Twins, second in the last three drafts after Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa in 2018 out of Henry Perrine Baldwin High School. Rosario is committed to play collegiately at California Baptist University where his sister, Lahela Rosario, plays water polo.
