He holds it deep in his palm like a classic circle changeup but snaps his wrist when releasing the pitch like a breaking ball...Attended Southeast Missouri State, where he became the first pitcher in conference history to win back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year awards...His 149 strikeouts his senior year set a new school and conference record and his 242 career strikeouts broke the Southeast Missouri record. Lucchesi was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Hall of Fame in 2021...Attended local Newark Memorial High School before spending two seasons at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif., where he helped guide his team to a Golden Coast Division Championship in 2013....Grew up a Golden State Warriors fan and loves basketball...Enjoys playing video games and watching movies... Went 0-1 with a 3.76 ERA (38.1 IP - 16 ER) and 31 strikeouts across 38 relief appearances for the San Francisco Giants...Began season with Triple-A Sacramento and went 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA (30.2 IP - 11 ER) and 31 strikeouts in 20 games out of the bullpen for the River Cats...Contract selected by Giants on June 15...Held LHB to a .219 AVG (16-for-73) and .598 OPS on the season...Did not allow a run in 11 appearances (12.1 IP) in July, and surrendered just six baserunners (five hits, one BB) compared to 14 strikeouts in the month...Scoreless streak reached 15.1 innings from June 24 to July 29; Also posted a scoreless streak of 9.2 innings across nine appearances from Aug. 23 to Sept. 12...Did not allow a run in 30 of 38 appearances on the season...Opposing hitters went 0-for-14 with four strikeouts against Lucchesi with two outs and runners in scoring position.

Spent most of his season with Triple-A Syracuse, appearing in 27 games (17 starts)...Went 5-7 with a 4.70 ERA and 86 strikeouts in the 27 outings...Was recalled on May 15 and started that day against the Phillies, working 4.1 innings with five runs on five hits, four walks and two strikeouts at Citizens Bank Park...Was optioned postgame. Made eight more starts for Syracuse before getting designated for assignment on July 9...Was outrighted to Syracuse four days later...Had his contract selected on Sept. 30 and started in the Mets’ final game of the regular season at Atlanta in the second game of the doubleheader...Suffered the loss despite giving up one run on three hits with five strikeouts across six innings.

Was a perfect 4-0 in nine starts in his first Major League action since 2021...His four-game winning streak was the longest of his career...Made four starts in August and September for the Mets, going 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA (4 ER/24.1 IP)...Did not allow a home run those four outings...Ran his career-best scoreless streak, which began in 2021, to 18.1 innings before yielding his first run of the season on April 27.

Pitched for the first time since undergoing "Tommy John" surgery in June 2021...Made eight rehab appearances across three minor league affiliates, posting a 2.13 ERA (three earned runs/12.2 innings)...Struck out 12 batters and walked three.

Suffered a torn UCL in his left elbow during his final start of the season, June 18 at Washington...Underwent Tommy John surgery on June 24...In his final five outings of the year (May 22-June 18), put up his five longest and strongest starts of the season...He pitched to a 1.19 ERA (three earned runs/22.2 innings) with 24 strikeouts and just six walks in that span...Of the 111 other pitchers to throw at least 20.0 innings in that span, just two had a lower ERA: Jacob deGrom (0.33) and Sean Manaea (0.84)...It was the lowest ERA he's posted in a five-game stretch in his career...Made his Mets debut in relief on April 7 at Philadelphia, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings...His next appearance was his first start of the year, April 17 at Colorado...Tossed 4.0 shutout innings, allowed just one hit and racked up a season-high eight punchouts on May 22 in his start against Miami...In relief, Lucchesi owned a 5.14 ERA (four earned runs/7.0 innings) in three games...Opponents hit .231 (6-26) with a .695 OPS when facing him in relief...As a starter, he totaled 31.1 innings with a 4.31 ERA (15 earned runs/31.1 innings), a .248 BAA (28-113) and a .729 OPS against.
