MLB At Bat Frequently Asked Questions

MLB At Bat for Android Devices

MLB At Bat returns for the 2018 MLB season with access to live game broadcasts, scores and schedules, breaking news and more. Your #1 source for live baseball on your iOS and Android devices is the official app of Major League Baseball.

Supported Devices

At Bat requires a minimum of Android OS version 4.2.2 and will run on phones, tablets, and Kindle Fire/Fire Phone devices. While live Gameday Audio and Gameday Pitch by Pitch should work on all devices meeting the minimum OS requirement, compatibility with live and archived MLB.TV content will vary by device due to the number of Android hardware/OS combinations available on the market. Please click here for a list of Android devices tested for live or archived MLB.TV compatibility. All unspecific devices are considered "grey" and may or may not successfully play live and archived MLB.TV content.

Getting Started

Choosing a Level of Access

At Bat is a free download from the Google Play Store and has two levels of access, offering both free and optional paid subscription features. Free access to At Bat includes breaking news, scores, Gameday Pitch-by-Pitch w/ Pitch FX, standings, schedules, interactive rosters, player stats, push notifications and much more. For access to At Bat paid subscription features during the regular season, which include the ability to listen to live home/away Gameday Audio and watch the MLB.TV Game of the Day (subject to blackout restriction; selected by MLB.com), you can purchase a subscription to At Bat. At Bat purchase information is detailed in the "Subscription Information and Management" section.

MLB.TV All Access subscribers receive access to At Bat subscription features for free and can review the "MLB.TV All Access Login Information" section below for instructions on redeeming the entitlement using the "Subscriber Login" option.

MLB.TV Single Team subscribers do not receive access to At Bat subscription features and must purchase an At Bat Premium subscription if they wish to utilize the premium features within the app.

If you have completed your purchase through the MLB.com website, please see the section "MLB.com Website Purchase and Cancellation Information."

Purchasing a Google Play Subscription

In-app purchases are purchased from and billed by Google Play, not MLB.com. These purchases are subject to the terms and conditions of Google Play. Google Play purchases are non-refundable after purchase. If you wish to confirm the type of subscription that has been purchased from Google Play, please consult your Google Play account or receipt as each subscription will have a unique billing name.

The At Bat Premium Annual purchase (billed as "At Bat Premium Annual") is valid for one year and will be re-billed every year by Google Play until cancelled by the user. Google Play will send an e-mail following a successful billing. Google Play subscriptions can be managed from your Google Wallet. MLB.com cannot manage Google Play subscriptions. Google Play subscription cancellation steps are listed below for your convenience.

The At Bat Premium Monthly purchase (billed as "At Bat Premium Monthly") is valid for one month and will be re-billed every month year-round by Google Play until cancelled by the user. Accessing your Google Play In-App Purchase on other Supported Devices

A major benefit of connecting your Google Play purchase to an MLB.com account is being able to access the purchase across your compatible Apple, Android, Kindle Fire/Fire Phone and Windows Phone 8 mobile devices. You will also have access to Gameday Audio using your personal computer. Separate purchases are no longer required. Connecting a purchase to an MLB.com account also allows Customer Service to better assist you with inquiries and troubleshooting. You will have an opportunity to connect your purchase to an MLB.com account after making the purchase, or it can be completed at a later time. You can only connect a Google Play purchase to one MLB.com account. If you connect the purchase to a second MLB.com account, the first account will lose all entitlements.

  1. Tap on the "Menu"
  2. Tap on "Settings"
  3. Tap on "MLB.com Account" and log in with existing MLB.com credentials or create a new account. This will link the purchase to the MLB.com account.
Restoring a previous Google Play purchase

Subscribers who have made an in-app purchase through Google Play will use the Restore option on the paywall, for example, when re-installing the application on an existing Android or new Android device. A restore can also be completed from the At Bat "Settings>Restore Purchases" option. A restore can only be completed on devices which share the same Google Play account as the initial purchase.

  1. Visit Google Wallet.
  2. Along the left side of your screen, select More > Subscriptions.

Troubleshooting

General Troubleshooting

**ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST DEVICE, OPERATING SYSTEM AND AT BAT VERSION PRIOR TO TROUBLESHOOTING**

If you are experiencing difficulty with the At Bat application, please follow the steps below as they may resolve the behavior that you are experiencing.

  1. Navigate to your device home screen
  2. Tap on the "Menu" key
  3. Tap on "Settings"
  4. Tap on "Applications"
  5. Tap on the application you want to close
  6. Tap on "Force stop"
  7. Tap the "Home" key to return to your device home screen
  8. Restart your device

If you still experience issues after following the above steps, please switch your connectivity from cellular to Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi to cellular. While Wi-Fi connections are typically an improvement over cellular, that is not always the case. Please understand that "bar" indicators on devices indicate the strength of a signal, but not network congestion or integrity which can impact application performance. For personal Wi-Fi connections, we recommend restarting your internet modem and router in the event a network conflict is occurring even if other devices are working properly.

Gameday Audio Troubleshooting

In addition to the troubleshooting information below, please review the "General Troubleshooting" section as it may contain steps to correct the behavior that you are experiencing.

While a Gameday Audio stream may say "playing" prior to the start of a game, you will only hear silence. Gameday Audio does not broadcast pre-game or post-game shows, and may not broadcast during rain delays or commercials.

For devices running Android OS 4.2.2 and greater, MLB.com provides different encoding formats for Gameday Audio due to Android fragmentation. If a particular format is not playing correctly on your device, please tap on the grey "Switch Audio feed" button in the player to switch to the alternate format. If the alternate feed plays successfully, you can set it to default from the At Bat "Settings>Audio Feed" section.

MLB.TV/MLB Network Troubleshooting

In addition to the troubleshooting information below, please review the "General Troubleshooting" section as it may contain steps to correct the behavior that you are experiencing.

At Bat supports viewing both live out-of-market and archived MLB.TV content on officially supported devices. You can view a list of these supported devices at http://mlb.mlb.com/mobile/atbat/devices.jsp. All other devices, if not explicitly noted as "incompatible," are considered "grey" and may or may not work successfully. Due to the amount of Android devices on the market, we are unable to test each and every device against the At Bat application.

MLB.TV/MLB Network live and archived content is subject to blackout restrictions and relies on location data provided by the At Bat application for verification. The following factors may affect successful blackout verification.

  1. Location services are not enabled on the device
  2. GPS satellites are not visible due to being indoors/away from windows
  3. A cellular data or Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite, hotel or corporate/VPN internet connection is being used
  4. You are attempting to access while traveling in motion (plane, train or automobile)

Please follow the steps below to ensure that location services are setup properly

Android 4.2
  1. Tap on device "Settings" icon
  2. Tap on "Location access"
  3. Ensure all location services are checked or enabled
    • If the device is running Android 4.3 or greater and your are unable to complete a blackout verification check with all services enabled, please disable the "GPS" location service [Disable "GPS Satellites" or choose the "Battery Saving" option under your location services]
  4. Tap the "Back" icon
  5. Tap on "Developer Options"
    • If "Developer Options" is not visible, do the following to enable
      1. Tap on "About phone" or "About tablet"
      2. Tap on "Build Number" seven times to unlock "Developer Options"
      3. Tap the "Back" key
      4. Tap on "Developer Options"
      5. Ensure the toggle in the upper right is set to "On"
  6. Ensure the option to "Allow mock locations" is unchecked

  8. Tap on "Apps"
  9. Tap on the At Bat application
  10. Tap on "Force stop"
Kindle Fire/Kindle Fire HD
  1. Navigate to the device "Settings"
  2. Tap on "Location-based Services"
  3. Ensure "Enable Location-based Services" is enabled"
  4. Tap on "Home" icon
Amazon Fire Phone
  1. Navigate to the device "Settings"
  2. Tap on "Location Services"
  3. Tap on "Configure Location Based Services (LBS) for your applications"
  4. Tap on "On" to enable or "Off" to disable

If you are accessing the game from a cellular connection or mobile hotspot, attempt to access from a Wi-Fi connection as cellular connections can often route your data well outside the current viewing location. You may also attempt to enable airplane mode for a minute, disable airplane mode and the device may connect to a different tower with different routing. We also recommend updating your billing information under your MLB.com profile as we will use this information as a datapoint for blackout verification.
