A's 1B Matt Olson undergoes surgery on right hand

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s announced that first baseman Matt Olson had successful surgery on his right hand today at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, Calif. The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Shin and involved a right hamate excision to Olson’s right hand.

Olson injured his hand on Thursday against Seattle in Tokyo on a foul tip in his final at bat. He started each of the A’s first two games at first base and went 1-for-5. Olson played in all 162 games last year and batted .247 with 29 home runs and 84 RBI in his first full season in the majors. He won the American League Gold Glove award for first basemen after leading Major League first basemen in games (162), total chances (1494), putouts (1403) and defensive runs saved (14).
