WEST SACRAMENTO — The Athletics placed right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter on the 15-day injured list retroactive to retroactive to July 19 with a right hip impingement, and infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer on the 10-day injured list following surgery for a ruptured testicle, the club announced on Tuesday. The A’s have also recalled right-handed pitcher Hayden Juenger and infielder Max Muncy from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Leiter goes on the IL with a right hip impingement for the second time as he was previously placed on the IL June 17. He was reinstated on July 3 and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings over four appearances. Leiter has not allowed a run in 17 of his last 18 games for a 0.50 ERA, and has a 4.28 ERA in 36 relief appearances overall.
Kuroda-Grauer was injured last night after fouling off a pitch in the fifth inning. He underwent emergency surgery to repair a ruptured testicle last night at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix and is resting comfortably. Kuroda-Grauer was selected from Las Vegas on June 29 and is batting .417 with eight multiple hit games in 16 games in his Major League debut.
Juenger made his ML debut earlier this year with Toronto and allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in 2.0 innings over two appearances. He began the season at Triple-A Buffalo, was selected by the Blue Jays on May 30, optioned back to Buffalo on June 4, designated for assignment on June 23, traded to the A’s organization on June 27 for catcher Owen Carapellotti, and assigned to Las Vegas. The 25-year-old right-hander went 2-0 with a 7.50 ERA in five games with the Aviators after going 1-2 with three saves, a 2.59 ERA and .628 opponents OPS in 21 games with Buffalo. Juenger has a 3.56 ERA and .699 OPS in 26 minor league games overall, with 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 30.1 innings.
Muncy joins the A’s for the second time this year after hitting .227 with five home runs, 20 RBI and a .699 OPS in 46 games before being optioned to Las Vegas on July 8. He went 7-for-20 (.350) with two home runs and five RBI in five games with the Aviators following his option. The 23-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .362 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 12 games overall at Triple-A, which included a rehab assignment from May 30 to June 7 while on the A’s injured list.
