Five Players Outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics claimed infielder Yonny Hernandez off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the club announced today.  The A’s also outrighted left-handed pitcher Sam Selman, right-handed pitchers Austin Pruitt, Norge Ruiz and Collin Wiles, and infielder Nate Mondou to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Hernandez began the season in the Texas Rangers organization and appeared in one game for Triple-A Round Rock before he was dealt to Arizona on April 7 in a minor league transaction.  He had three stints with the Diamondbacks and went 2-for-24 (.083) with two walks in 12 games.  The 24-year-old switch hitter combined for a .241 average, one home run, 31 RBI and a .673 OPS in 71 games with Round Rock and Triple-A Reno.  Hernandez also stole 30 bases, which tied for seventh in the Pacific Coast League.  He made his Major League debut with Texas in 2021 and is a .198 hitter with six RBI and 13 stolen bases in 55 career games in the majors.  Hernandez has a .262 average, five home runs, 200 RBI, 184 stolen bases and a .712 OPS in 531 games over seven seasons in the minors.  He has played primarily second base and shortstop as a minor leaguer but has 39 games at third base in the majors.

Mondou was selected from Las Vegas on Oct. 3 and went 0-for-2 in one game in his Major League debut after hitting .283 with seven home runs, 64 RBI and an .805 OPS in 107 games with Las Vegas.  Pruitt had two stints with Oakland and was 0-1 with a save, a 4.23 ERA and .698 opponents OPS in 39 games, including one start.  He also logged a 3.27 ERA and .599 OPS in 12 games with Las Vegas.  Ruiz went 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA and .981 OPS in 14 games over two stints with the A’s in his Major League debut.  He was 5-1 with two saves, a 3.73 ERA and .695 OPS in 31 games with Las Vegas. Selman had five separate stays with Oakland and combined for a 4.91 ERA and .757 OPS in 16 relief appearances.  He also posted a 2-0 record, six saves and a 2.83 ERA in 28 outings with Las Vegas. Wiles made his ML debut with Oakland in September, compiling a 4.66 ERA and .815 OPS in four relief appearances, after going 9-11 with a 5.40 ERA and .835 OPS in 26 games, all starts, with Las Vegas.
