BALTIMORE -- Blue Jays right fielder exited Sunday’s 9-5 loss to the Orioles in the sixth inning holding his right throwing hand after he was hit by a ball thrown by a fan from the seats in right-center field at Camden Yards.

The Blue Jays later announced Sánchez had a bruised right wrist and that precautionary X-rays were negative.

The game was paused as pitching coach Pete Walker paid a visit to Blue Jays reliever Hayden Juenger.

Suddenly, Sánchez had removed his glove and was clutching at his wrist area. He was visited by team personnel and exited the game, replaced by Yohendrick Piñango.

"We have identified the fan and removed them from the ballpark while we conduct a thorough investigation,” the Orioles said in a statement.

According to the U.S. broadcast on Peacock and NBC Sports Network, the fan was a child under 10 who mistakenly believed Sánchez had signaled to play catch.

Sánchez has played in all but three of the Jays’ 60 games this season, primarily in right field but occasionally in left.

He’s currently slashing .287/.324./.461, and he had an RBI double in Saturday’s 6-5 defeat.
