Braves acquire catcher Perez from Angels

Atlanta sends infielder Schimpf to Halos in deal

The Braves acquired catcher from the Angels in exchange for infielder on Saturday. Atlanta has two catchers hurt in Tyler Flowers and , with Flowers on the 10-day disabled list.
Perez, 27, appeared in 11 games for the Angels last season, his third year in the Majors. He was 2-for-20 with a home run. In 68 games at Triple-A Salt Lake in 2017, he slashed .352/.423/.502 with five home runs. In 595 career Major League plate appearances, he has slashed .224/.267/.332 with 10 homers.
Flowers, Atlanta's starting catcher to open the season, left the Braves' Opening Day contest against the Phillies with a strained left oblique. He will likely be sidelined for at least a month. Suzuki was hit on the right hand by a pitch on Friday, but will avoid the disabled list after an MRI showed no fracture.
Schimpf, who turns 30 on April 11, spent the past two seasons with the Padres, for whom he slashed .195/.317/.492 with 34 homers in 142 games.
