ATLANTA -- Braves manager Brian Snitker jokingly said the team might get Johan Camargo's mother an apartment in one of the residences located in The Battery, which sits just outside of SunTrust Park. He might start seriously considering it now.
Camargo extended his recent power surge with a three-run homer off Nationals starter Giovany Gonzalez to give the Braves a lead in the fifth inning on Saturday. Atlanta went on to lose, 5-3, in 14 innings.
"He got the changeup ahead in the count there and gave us a big hit," Snitker said.
Gonzalez threw four perfect innings before Nick Markakis and Tyler Flowers began the bottom of the fifth with consecutive singles. This set the stage for Camargo, who jumped on a 2-0 changeup and sent it over the center-field wall. The clout traveled a projected 431 feet, according to Statcast™.
Camargo's three-run shot was his fifth homer of the season and third within a span of 15 at-bats, dating back to the walk-off shot he delivered with his mom in attendance for Tuesday night's win over the Mets.
Camargo's mother flew from their native Panama to Atlanta on Tuesday to celebrate her birthday by watching her son play. Her presence has seemingly energized the Braves third baseman, who had tallied seven home runs in the 328 career at-bats he'd tallied before his mother arrived this week.

"I want to take her to San Diego with me," Camargo playfully said in reference to the Braves' three-game road series against the Padres that starts on Monday.
