July 11th, 2022

ATLANTA -- The Braves acquired veteran infielder from the Padres for cash considerations on Sunday, then called him up on Monday to face his former team as the Braves open a three-game series against the Mets. Canó will wear No. 22 with Atlanta.

This is the 39-year-old's third Major League team this season after being released by the Mets on May 8 and then signed by the Padres. Canó has played in just 24 games in the Majors in 2022. His last appearance in the big leagues was on June 1 against the Cardinals in a pinch-hit at-bat.

The Padres optioned him to Triple-A El Paso on June 2. Canó has played 21 games with the Chihuahuas and has begun to catch his stride with consistent at-bats. He's slashing .333/.375/.479 over 96 at-bats with three home runs and 20 RBIs.

The Braves enter Monday's series trailing the Mets by 1 1/2 games in the NL East.
