Cubs recall INF/OF Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa, place outfielder Brian Bogusevic on 15-day DL

DENVER – The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder/outfielder Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa and placed outfielder Brian Bogusevic on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 15) with a left hamstring strain.

Lake, who joins the first major league roster of his career, will wear uniform number 21 and be available for the Cubs tonight in Denver against the Colorado Rockies.

Lake, 23, is batting .295 (46-for-156) with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 18 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 40 games with Iowa this season, his first-ever appearance in Triple-A.  He has turned in a .341 on-base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage, good for a .803 OPS.  He has hit an equal .295 against both left-handed and right-handed pitching.  Lake’s season debut was delayed until June due to a rib fracture suffered during spring training.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Lake originally signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on February 2, 2007.  He reached the Double-A level for the first time in 2011 after earning Florida State League mid-season All-Star honors with Single-A Daytona.  Lake was also named to the 2011 Arizona Fall League Top Prospects team.  In 2012, Lake spent the entire season with Tennessee and batted .279 (113-for-405) with 26 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 103 games.

Overall, Lake is a career .271 hitter (611-for-2,254) with 114 doubles, 30 triples, 47 home runs, 260 RBI and 117 stolen bases in 619 minor league games.

Bogusevic, 29, is hitting .261 (12-for-46) with three doubles and three RBI in 13 games with the Cubs this season.  He signed a minor league contract with the Cubs last offseason and was selected to the major league roster on June 25.
