HOUSTON -- Gabriel Moreno drove in the tie-breaking run with an RBI single, Ketel Marte blasted his 22nd home run of the season and the Diamondbacks mounted their 42nd come-from-behind win, defeating the Astros, 4-3, on Saturday night in 10 innings at Daikin Park.
In the 10th, Moreno singled to center field, driving in automatic runner Ildemaro Vargas to make it 4-3. Vargas had been bunted over to third by Geraldo Perdomo to lead off the frame.
Brandyn Garcia came out of the 'pen and struck out American League MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez before getting a popout in foul territory from Isaac Paredes and then striking out Jose Altuve swinging to end the game.
It was Garcia’s fifth save of the season.
Jonathan Loáisiga improves to 7-3 overall after pitching a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts out of the bullpen.
Trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning, Marte launched a sweeper a Statcast-projected 388 feet into the right field seats. Marte immediately flipped his bat and beat his hand on his chest before rounding the bases.
The D-backs trailed the majority of the game.
Arizona scratched across a run in the fifth as Moreno drove in Tim Tawa on a RBI sacrifice fly to center field to make it 2-1. The Astros would add a run in the home half of the inning.
Lars Nootbaar cut into the lead again in the seventh as he roped a ball to the right field corner for an RBI double, driving in Tawa, making it 3-2 Astros.
Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt registered his eighth quality start, giving up the three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out four on the night in 6 1/3 innings.
