Executive Vice President & General Manager
Mike Hazen is in his second season as the D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager. In this role, he oversees all the baseball operations functions of the franchise. Hazen became the fifth GM in franchise history when he was named to the position on Oct. 16, 2016.
In his first season leading the club's baseball operations, the D-backs reversed their record from 69-93 in 2016 to 93-69 in 2017, reaching the postseason for the first time since 2011. Among the notable moves in Hazen's first season were the acquisitions of Taijuan Walker, Ketel Marte and J.D. Martinez, each of whom became key contributors to the 2017 playoff team.
Hazen joined the D-backs from the Boston Red Sox where he spent the previous 11 seasons, included winning world championships in 2007 and '13. Most recently, he served as Boston's Sr. Vice President & General Manager following 4 seasons as the club's Assistant GM. In that role, he oversaw or was involved in every aspect of baseball operations, including player acquisitions, player evaluation, contract negotiations, professional scouting and amateur scouting.
Prior to joining Boston, Hazen spent 5 seasons with the Cleveland Indians while working in scouting and player development.
Hazen graduated from Princeton University, where he played 4 years of varsity baseball and was a 2-time All-Ivy League outfielder in 1997 and 1998 before being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 31st round of the 1998 June Draft.
He and his wife, Nicole, reside in Phoenix and have four sons: Charlie, John, Teddy and Sam.
