Seager homers and triples in first two at-bats for OKC
Dodgers' No. 1 prospect hits his fourth home run in his past seven Triple-A games
With a potential callup in September on the horizon, Corey Seager is getting hot at the perfect time.
The Dodgers' No. 1 prospect (No. 2 overall) homered and tripled on Thursday in Triple-A Oklahoma City's 9-7 win over El Paso. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
The home run was Seager's fourth in his last seven games and improved his season total to 18, two shy of his single-season high. He has 13 dingers in 98 games since moving up to the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Seager scuffled in July to the tune of .203 batting average and three home runs in 19 games but has rebounded nicely in August, batting .300 with an .815 OPS, four home runs and 18 RBIs across 27 games.
Yet, the fact that the 21-year-old is swinging a hot bat doesn't necessarily mean that the Dodgers will promote him next month when rosters expand.
Veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins has picked up the pace offensively since the All-Star break, while third baseman Justin Turner has been one of the team's more consistent hitters this season. On top of that, the Dodgers are also considering using Chase Utley at the hot corner in advance of Howie Kendrick's return from the disabled list in early September.
On the season, Seager is batting .276 at Triple-A and hit .375 in 20 games at Double-A Tulsa before he was promoted to Oklahoma City.
