Dodgers recall lefty Liberatore from Triple-A

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers added a 13th arm to their bullpen on Tuesday, recalling left-hander Adam Liberatore from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Liberatore has split time between the Major and Minor Leagues this year, and he gives the Dodgers a fourth lefty in the bullpen, joining J.P. Howell, Luis Avilan and Ian Thomas. He last appeared for the Dodgers July 28, but was supplanted by the acquisition of Avilan.

"Just another arm to protect us, not that we don't have enough," said Mattingly. "Jim Johnson will be gone a day or two, and we just want to replace that arm."

Johnson will leave the team for the birth of his child. Liberatore, meanwhile, did not allow a run in his last five appearances with Oklahoma City, most recently pitching in a postseason game against Round Rock on Sept. 11. He went 0-1 with three saves and a 3.74 ERA in 19 Triple-A games.
