Nomar poised to join Dodgers' SportsNet LA crew

LOS ANGELES -- Nomar Garciaparra will join the Dodgers' SportsNet LA broadcast team for the 2014 season, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday.

The Dodgers could not confirm the report.

Garciaparra, who played with the Dodgers from 2006-08 and retired after the 2009 season, has been a broadcaster with ESPN.

The Dodgers have been negotiating with several broadcasters, including former Dodgers pitcher Orel Hershiser, after not renewing the contracts of Eric Collins and Steve Lyons. The club will begin its 25-year, $8 billion deal with Time Warner in 2014.

The 40-year-old Garciaparra, a six-time All-Star who was born in Whittier, Calif., and went to St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, was the National League Comeback Player of the Year for the Dodgers in 2006.
