Francona loses challenge in second inning

CLEVELAND -- A safe call at first base challenged by the Indians was confirmed after replay review.

With no men on in the second inning, catcher Yan Gomes hit a chopper up the middle that was fielded by Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and thrown to first. First-base umpire Bob Davidson called Gomes out on a bang-bang play at the bag.

Tribe manager Terry Francona issued a managerial challenge, but the ruling stood as initially called after a brief replay review that lasted just under two minutes. Francona is now 4-for-12 on replay challenges this season.
