It would not be surprising if Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto changes uniforms this offseason, but it would be a surprise if the All-Star backstop went to one of Miami's National League East rivals. Such a move could be a possibility, however, as sources tell MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that the Braves have interest and are closely monitoring Realmuto's market, though they haven't made a formal offer.
SiriusXM's Craig Mish reported Wednesday that the Braves made a strong offer to the Marlins for Realmuto, though that has not been confirmed by MLB.com. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that eight to 10 teams have checked in with Miami about the star catcher.

Realmuto's agent, Jeff Berry, told MLB Network Radio last week that the catcher would like to be traded instead of participating in Miami's rebuilding effort, but the Marlins are not obligated to make a deal since Realmuto is under team control through 2020. His addition would strengthen the budding roster for Atlanta, the reigning NL East champs. The Braves employed a platoon consisting mostly of Tyler Flowers and Kurt Suzuki (now a free agent) behind the plate last season. Acquiring Realmuto via trade would likely cost Atlanta several top prospects and perhaps a current Major Leaguer as well. The Braves possess one of the game's top farm systems, per MLB Pipeline.
Marlins general manager Michael Hill told MLB.com on Tuesday that the team did not sense any urgency to trade Realmuto, and while Miami is still listening to trade offers, the club is still open to signing the catcher to a long-term extension. Realmuto made his first All-Star team in 2018 while batting .277/.340/.484 with career highs in home runs (21) and RBIs (74).
