Injuries & Moves: Bruján, Hill reinstated; Hensley optioned

Sept. 19: INF and OF reinstated from the 10-day injured list; OF optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville; INF designated for assignment
Bruján (right shoulder AC joint sprain) had been playing through shoulder trouble all season before landing on the IL on Aug. 31. Despite the issues, he already set career highs in runs scored (32), hits (55), doubles (14) and walks (25) this season.

The Marlins claimed Hill off waivers from the Giants on Aug. 3, after which he slashed .227/.242/.417 with four homers and 17 RBIs in 25 games before he went on the IL, retroactive to Sept. 5.

Hensley went 11-for-52 (.212) with one homer in 23 games with the Marlins since he was acquired off waivers from the Astros on July 29, then activated on July 30. Devers was called up when Bruján went on the IL on Aug. 31, but only appeared in three games.

Meyer is in Jupiter, Fla., rehabbing. He isn't throwing, but will be evaluated for a throwing program. According to manager Skip Schumaker, Meyer said he had felt the discomfort in his last couple of outings, but especially in his most recent start when it affected his mechanics. McMillon is completing his rehab in Miami after undergoing further evaluation. He exited early from his outing against the Pirates on Sept. 11, during which he threw two fastballs in the upper 80s -- well below his 95.4 mph average. The dip in velocity prompted manager Skip Schumaker to head to the mound with Miami's trainer and McMillon was pulled from the game. (Last updated: Sept. 17)

Pérez reached a recovery milestone by making nine throws while playing catch from 45 feet on Sept. 17. He will do so again on Sept. 19. He opened the season on the injured list (retroactive to March 25). Pérez had Tommy John surgery on April 8 after experiencing soreness in his bullpen session on April 2. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 4. (Last updated: Sept. 19)

According to manager Skip Schumaker, there is a chance Garrett returns for the Marlins' three-game series against the Braves Sept. 20-22. Garrett threw 77 pitches across 4 2/3 scoreless innings on Sept. 17 for Triple-A Jacksonville, striking out seven, walking two and scattering three hits. Schumaker went on to say the club would assess how Garrett continues to recover before making a decision.

Garrett previously went three scoreless frames on Sept. 11 for the Jumbo Shrimp and another three scoreless innings for Single-A Jupiter on Sept. 5 to begin a rehab assignment.

Garrett was placed on the IL on June 23 after he was scratched from his scheduled start and was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 30. (Last updated: Sept. 18)

Alcantara threw 20 pitches of live batting practice on Sept. 17 in Miami after completing his final bullpen session on Sept. 14 in Washington D.C. He threw his first bullpen session on July 24, getting in 20 pitches.

Alcantara initially felt discomfort in his arm on his 94th and final pitch on Sept. 3, 2023, against the Nationals. He was diagnosed with a right forearm flexor strain. An MRI exam later revealed a right UCL sprain. Alcantara underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 6. (Last updated: Sept. 17)

Myers played seven innings in left field and went 1-for-3 for Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 17 to begin a rehab assignment. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on Aug. 25 after fracturing his left ankle on July 13 when he kicked a door in the clubhouse following his ejection from the game. He saw a foot specialist upon the team's return to Miami on July 14 and was placed in a walking boot. (Last updated: Sept. 17)

Sánchez threw live batting practice on Sept. 17 in Jupiter, Fla. After experiencing a big dip in velocity in his May 31 start vs. Texas, Sánchez was placed on the IL on June 2 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 25. He has had a history of major shoulder problems, including two surgeries that caused him to miss three big league seasons from 2021-23. (Last updated: Sept. 17)

Luzardo shared that he's planning on returning in the 2025 season and will stay with the team to complete workouts and treatment for the rest of this year. He continues to rest with bike workouts as well as forearm and shoulder strengthening.

Luzardo was placed on the 15-day IL on June 22, before being transferred to the 60-day IL on June 23. He was scratched from his June 22 start after dealing with a back issue for a couple of weeks. (Last updated: Sept. 17)
