MIAMI -- The Marlins' infield is finally at full strength. The club on Thursday reinstated shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the 10-day disabled list and optioned infielder J.T. Riddle to Triple-A New Orleans.
With the return of Hechavarria -- who had been out since April 9 with a left oblique strain -- for the first time this year, Miami's projected left side of the infield is intact.
When the season opened, Hechavarria was at shortstop, but third baseman Martin Prado was on the 10-day DL due to a right hamstring strain.
With Hechavarria out, it prompted the first big league callup for Riddle, who was a walk-off hero for the Marlins on Sunday in their 4-2 win over the Mets at Marlins Park.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Riddle delivered a walk-off homer, the first long ball of his MLB career.
Hechavarria appeared in five games and was batting .200 in 20 at-bats before he tweaked his oblique during warmups on April 8 in New York. He played through discomfort in that game.
Before being reinstated, Hechavarria played in two rehab assignment games, one each with Class A Advanced Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville. He went 1-for-7.
Riddle appeared in eight games and went 2-for-14 (.143) with three RBIs. At New Orleans, the 25-year-old left-handed hitting infielder is expected to be the regular shortstop. Before he was promoted to the big leagues, he was off to a 6-for-14 (.429) start.
The return of Hechavarria also gives manager Don Mattingly more versatility with his bench. Miguel Rojas and Riddle had been splitting time at shortstop.
Rojas becomes an option to play all over the diamond. He also has picked up the pace at the plate, batting .289 with two doubles and two RBIs.
If Hechavarria struggles at the plate, Rojas could find himself more at shortstop. But Hechavarria is a two-time Gold Glove Award finalist, and he has been a steady performer since becoming Miami's everyday shortstop in 2013.
