D-backs name Deric Ladnier as Director, Scouting

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Deric Ladnier as Director, Scouting, as announced by D-backs Senior Vice President, Baseball Operations De Jon Watson.

Ladnier, 50, enters his 25th season in scouting and player development in 2015 having spent time with the Washington Nationals (2008-14), Kansas City Royals (2000-08) and Atlanta Braves (1991-00).

Over his 7 seasons with the Nationals, they were 2-time NL East division champs in 2012 and 2014 and also finished second in 2013.

His 8-year tenure with the Royals as Senior Director of Scouting was highlighted by notable draft selections like 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner and 2-time All-Star Zack Greinke as well as a handful of members of the Royals 2014 World Series team, including 2-time AL All-Star and 4-time Gold Glove winner Alex Gordon, 2-time Gold Glover Eric Hosmer, 2-time AL All-Star and 2014 Mariano Rivera AL Reliever of the Year honoree Greg Holland, Billy Butler, Mike Moustakas, Luke Hochevar (No. 1 overall pick in 2006), Danny Duffy, Jarrod Dyson and Mike Montgomery.

Ladnier elevated through the Braves ranks over his 10 seasons during which the organization was recognized as having a Top-6 Minor League system by Baseball America. Among the notable draftees were Rafael Furcal, Jason Schmidt, Jermaine Dye, Kevin Millwood, Jason Marquis, Mark DeRosa, John Rocker, Freddy Sanchez, Marcus Giles and Bruce Chen.

Ladnier began his scouting career as an Area Supervisor with the Braves in 1991, was promoted to Director of Minor League Operations then Regional Supervisor and finally Assistant Director of Scouting and Player Development.

Ladnier was the Royals eighth-round pick in the 1985 draft out of University of Mississippi.
