A's acquire Mark Canha from Colorado for Austin House and cash
The Oakland A's acquired first baseman/outfielder Mark Canha from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Austin House and cash considerations, the club announced today. Canha spent the entire 2014 season at Triple-A New Orleans where he batted .303 with 20 home runs and 82 RBI in 127 games. He added 57 walks for a .384 on-base percentage and slugged .505. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter appeared in 61 games in left field, 40 at first base and 18 at third base. Canha was originally drafted by Miami in the seventh round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and is a .285 career hitter with 68 home runs and 303 RBI in 496 games in five professional seasons. House spent most of the 2014 season at Single-A Stockton where he went 3-4 with 19 saves and a 3.46 ERA in 46 relief appearances. He also made four scoreless appearances at Triple-A Sacramento. The 23-year-old right-hander was originally selected by the A's in the 14th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. House is 7-8 with a 3.27 ERA and 33 saves in 106 career minor league appearances over three seasons.
Peterson hit .308 with 11 home runs and 90 RBI in 137 games with Sacramento last year. He played in two games with the A's in 2013, going 1-for-7 (.143) with a RBI.
